Turn left and follow the trail approximately 0.4 miles to the turnaround point where the trail is fenced off. Do not take the path to the left before the steep short climb to the turnaround. That path is part of the second leg of the “figure 8.” Run back to where the trail intersects the trail where you started but continue straight on the single track until the trail drops steeply onto the fire road. Continue running on the fire road until it merges with Coto de Caza Drive. You will run about 0.5 miles on the shoulder of the road until the horse trail starts. Run on the horse trail until the first stop sign, turn right and run up a short hill back to the start/finish line (3.3 miles, 626 feet elevation gain). Leg two if the “figure 8”: Climb up to the top of the ridge as you did in the first leg. Turn left and run to the turnaround point. After the turnaround, run about 100 yards and go down the trail that appears on the right (it will be marked). Run down this trail until it ends at Colinas. Run on the street down Colinas a little over ½ mile until it ends at Coto de Caza Drive. Turn left and run on the horse trail to the first stop sign, turn left and run up the short hill to start/finish line (2.2 miles, 541 feet elevation gain). Total elevation gain for ½ marathon: 2,875 feet Directions to the start line: Take I-5 South and exit at Oso Parkway. Drive to Antonio Parkway and turn left. At Coto de Caza Drive, turn right and go to the guard shack. Tell them you are with the Charlie Alewine group. Go through the guard shack and drive a little less than a mile to the first stop sign. Coto de Caza Sport Park will be on the right. Drive up and park in the dirt parking lot on the left.
